Welcome to Koh Kids!

We offer one of the best martial arts programs to kids available in the Brandon/Riverview area. Children age 4 through 12 learn the ancient art of Muay Thai—a combat sport well-know for its practical uses in self-defense as well as its strong teaching structure of self-discipline and respect.

Martial arts is well known for providing children the benefit of improved social skills, self-confidence, discipline, and respect for others. Training for Martial Arts has been shown to help children better concentrate and focus on activities while enhancing their motor skills. In addition to promoting a healthier lifestyle, martial arts helps children become well-rounded individuals with a strong mental focus and improved stress handling capabilities.

Our Kids Muay Thai class also provides the added benefit of having fun!

The lessons in our Kids’ Muay Thai class are structured similarly to the adult classes and the techniques and objectives taught are meant to carry with them as they grow and advance into the teen and adult classes. With practice, hard work, and dedication to lessons, your child will be able to demonstrate the proper Thai Boxing stance, movements, and strike/block techniques.

What To Expect

Classes are open to children age 4 through 12, and no prior martial arts or sports experience is required. If your child does have martial arts experience, it will only further enhance what they know! Parents or guardians are welcome to join in the class alongside their child—but remember that you’ll have to follow the instructor’s directions too!

All classes begin with an exercise warmup and stretch. An instructor will explain and demonstrate a basic Muay Thai technique or combination and coach each student (Nak Muay) on how to properly and safely apply the technique using the necessary training equipment and pads.

Nak Mauys will be afforded the opportunity to practice these techniques and combinations by running drills with the instructor or assisting trainer. Repetitively practicing these drills helps students to get the movements down correctly, building their muscle memory, and an opportunity to increase their speed, reaction time, and power. Nak Muays may be partnered with each other to practice drills under the supervision of the instructor and/or assistant trainers. Continued (informal) assessments of techniques will be conducted and techniques will be modified and corrected throughout the lesson.

Gear and Essentials Required

All students will need their own hand wraps and gloves. Thai training shorts are optional but proper workout attire is necessary to allow proper movement of the body. Koh Muay Thai will provide all gear necessary for training, including Thai pads, mitts, belly pads, etc.

All jewelry (including watches) should be removed prior to the start of class.

Please get with an instructor if you need any assistance purchasing gear.
